Sorry i'm kinda noob in terms of PC fans...

I just bought some Corsair case fans but i don't know what this is for?

is it an extension but why is it so short? and if it's needed, why didn't they permanently attached it with the fan cables?

it will also be greatful if someone post a youtube link of a vid telling me the difference when using fans with or without this "extension" :p

also should i plug my case fans to my mobo or my case fan controller (NZXT phantom 410)?
and do you suggest me using this thing or not?

I also mainly use 7 volts btw and 5 volts when my pc is idle...

It looks like there is something spliced into one of the wires, probably a resistor. It's a (very cheap) form of fan control, but since you have a fan controller already, I'd connect the fan to that without the extension and control it that way if you want to limit its speed.

The problem with using a resistor to control fan speed is that there is no adjustment when power is on. You have to shut the computer down, open it up, and remove the resistor if you want to speed the fan back up. A real pain to deal with.
