Ok, thank you very much. Is there a CPU you would consider an ok upgrade that i can find used on ebay for less than $50? Sorry, but im broke. :(

well the E8400 i believe was a Core 2 Duo not a Core I3 CPU. this puts it in the LGA 775 socket. you will need a quad core CPU for an upgrade and any thing less than the Q6600 would be useless. At the going rate of the Quad core Core 2's it will be better to upgrade the Motherboard and CPU and not just the CPU.

If you insist on upgrading that system then you will need to know that the FSB is 1333 and that the socket is a LGA 775. Make sure the PSU can handle the extra draw from the CPU before the upgrade.

It would be done in the Bios as long as the Bios are not locked. Locked bios are usually only on motherboard models that come as a prebuilt system from a factory. If the system was a home built system when it was new then they are most likely unlocked. you would over clock it by adjusting the FSB up and the voltage up as needed. But only as needed.

there are a ton of Core 2 OC tutorials on youtube and write ups about it all over the net.
