Unfortunately that CPUis very weak and will bottleneck any mid-high end GPU. Also, the CPU cannot be upgraded without a new motherboard which will require a new install of windows.

The CPU can be upgraded to a quadcore APU .

You need to check the motherboard make and model [ which will be printed on the mb ] and then head for the makers webpage for that board and find a cpu support list
The most likely upgrade , and best value if you are going to add a graphics card is likely to be

AMD 760K Richland 3.8GHz Socket FM2 100W $90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Its a quadcore , unlocked FM2 APU with the graphics disabled

You should also take the RAM out of the machine and get another identical stick you can add back so you have dual channel RAM

Then you would need to add a graphics card . What you buy depends on 3 things
1/ the make and wattage of your power supply
2/ the resolution of your monitor
3/ your budget

Your resolution is low so you do not need a very powerful graphics card .
The most powerful card you can comfortably run with your power supply is a Radeon 7770.
And that should play games well.

This one is $80 after a rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

If you want to have more gaming power and you will spend all your budget then

The CPU I mentioned earlier $90
[ but check the motherboard cpu support list or it might not work ]

Rosewill Green Series RG630-S12 630W Power Supply $49
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

ASUS HD7870-DC2-2GD5-V2 Radeon HD 7870 $200
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

That should run any game very well on your monitor , and any game will be playable on a 1080p screen
