Im new to pc building and a friend built me a pc with these parts about a year ago:

AMD II 4 core 3 ghz processor
HD radeon 5670
Asus M5A78l MLX motherboard
Toshiba 320 GB SSD hard drive
Ace ATX P4 520W - power supply.
8gb of DDR3 RAM

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the best processor and graphics card I could possibly get to improve my set up as i wana play BF4 and possible COD ghosts on more than 20 FPS. as for budget I'm flexible i just want to know the best parts i could add to it without having to buy a whole new set up.

Any help and advice is gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance

This is as solid as it gets, I wish it was this price when I bought mine for $200.00 :(
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Professional-Watt-Modular-HX750/dp/B0090I9VZI/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1384744225&sr=1-2
OR
Actually you'd be a fool if you didn't pick that one up for that price, its the best value for the money can easily SLI Gt GeForce 770's with it.
http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FD8320FRHKBOX-FX-8320-8-Core-Black/dp/B009O7YU56/ref=lp_229189_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1384744700&sr=1-9
Top 10 in AMD processor's Good news is your mobo supports that socket type so no need to upgrade it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127663 140 bucks BIG leap in performance or you could go Radeon 7850

you definately need to upgrade your cpu
http://www.amazon.com/AMD-4-Core-Edition-FX-4300-FD4300WMHKBOX/dp/B009O7YU3S%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAI62SSPLIHX7AR6PA%26tag%3Dsortable-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB009O7YU3S

and GPU again I wouldn't go any lower than a 650 Ti Boost the 650 score an average of 45ish fps on battlefield 4. Unfortunatley if you wanna get into those games its a gotta upgrade cpu and gpu or else you wont be able to get the kind of improvement your looking for. so the second one is about $250. Ill keep my eyes open for any good deals but it looks like this would be the best options for you.

Just throwing this out there the GeForce 670 same price has a better rating than the r9-280x on battefield 3.
Corsair or Seagate are the best PSU's so you should be fine with either line.
Hmmmmm the 8350 seems good BF4-wise the i5 is a better performer games are starting to rely on hyperthreading a lot more.
Im sorry I didnt realize your a UK gamer. Let me check some stuff.
I must say this for anybody reading I am NOT an AMD hater I have a hard time justifying their performance vs. intel and their "titan killer" gpu's which they cannot even beat across the board and Nvidia drops a card that does beat it for cheaper. I know about AMD products looking for a diamond in the rough but have yet to find one.

Thats a good PSU especially for that price.
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/58041/AMD-CPU-FX-9370-AM3--Octa-Core-4-70GHz-8MB-220W
Its about $20 more or quid whatever you guys call it :) but it hangs with the i5 Ivy Bridge which is one of the top 3 i5's you can get for gaming. i5 is probably the best cpu you can get for a straight up gaming PC. So finding a AMD APU that can hang with it is a good thing.
It should stay around 70 c overclocked which isn't going to harm anything but I would consider a new heat sink as a sooner than later upgrade on any of these AMD chips. AMD's answer to hyperthreading looks like they just threw more cores out there. whats the clock spec on your "RAM" or Memory? Also I wanted to point out Im trying to look for parts that arent a band aid but a solid upgrade meaning your money wont be misplaced in about a year.
BTW how does a whole country not have a Ge Force 670 GPU? lol? Aha found a couple
http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-nvidia/geforce-gtx-670-pci-e
This card pillages BF3 @ an average of 97 fps. Even if you take a third of those frames for BF4 your getting better than 60fps on high/ultra settings. It also got slightly better ratings on gaming and computing performance than the 280x. I believe its cheaper in the uk than the 280x as well, by about 30 quid(sorry if thats wrong denomination).
Which you could spend on this to make sure you dont fry your PC

Do you happen to know anymore detail on your mem other than DDR3?

My RAM is 2x4GB I think the memory is 1066mhz. Does that sound about right, thanks very much for you help mate, and yea it's all quids over here :) ! Yea Id prefer a proper upgrade rather than a "band aid" as you called it :) will those parts fit on my motherboard do you think ?

Yes no prob with card, socket is good triple checked it. PSU is good has 2x6+2 pin connectors so no worries with graphics card has more than enough connectors if you expand your storage. I also just got a reply back from a moderator on here who's been around the block who's definately helped me out in the past. I asked him his opinion between the new 280x or the 670 he agreed with me on performance even OCing the 280x it would probably only match the 670.
I ask about your mem. cause honestly anything under 1600 is considered slow for games. You will have a great gpu and a good cpu going to be getting enough power for them.
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/50222/G-Skill-8GB-RipjawsX-DDR3-Memory-PC3-12800
These are the best mem. sticks I could find that fit your board specs. 1600 clock speed cas 9 latency 1.5 volt. VS. 1066 clock speed thats 466hz faster clock than what you currently have. thats not including the oc you can get out of these 1600hz sticks which can go up to 1866 which is the highest clock speed your mobo can handle. Just letting you know when the time comes to up the RAM. I like Corsair memory as well as psu's but on my next upgrade Im getting the Gskill TridentX series.
If you have 8GB 1066 that will be better than 4GB of 1600 I checked, so it would have to be at least 8GB of 1600 to give you 1/3 of better performance. Unless you are using a 32bit OS.
So FYI RAM/Memory-wise it won't be worth upgrading to any higher clocks unless you get 8GB of the higher clocks. If you do or can OC your current ram to 1600 I wouldnt go any lower in clock speed than 1866, but only if thats the case.

So you are good to go!!! :)

thanks alot mate. i really appreciate you taking the time to help me out like this. ill defo use your advice and get all theses parts. My computer knowledge is so limited :) ive just looked on here https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LM_LX/#support to see if the new CPU is compatible with my motherboard and i dont think it is as its not on the cpu supported list.
i have opened by pc and looked at the motherboard and it does say AM3+ supported .
thanks again

first of your motherboard only supports 95w processors max and i would suggest the fx 6300 as its not as greedy in power then the 8 cores and is better performance per watt

psu 650w gold power supply the diffrence is simple from bronze to gold it wastes less energy getting a good psu with a strong single rail is important

http://www.ebuyer.com/545317-corsair-rm650-fully-modular-650w-80-gold-psu-cp-9020054-uk

7850 2gb ddr5 is good too

these are in my opinion best parts without running up your electric bill high plus 7850 will easily play bf4 and other games as my own machine uses this also
