I am planning on ordering a 780 ti and I am probably not going to be able to upgrade for another 4 years. How long will it be before I start playing games on low settings? I know you can't tell me for sure and what not but basing on how graphics cards and games have been advancing in the past years, could you make an estimate?

Maybe two years or so. Just look at what the top graphics card from 4 years ago was and how it would perform now for a rough idea where your 780ti will be 4 years from now.

Well it depends on what games you will be playing in four years, since not all games will be the same demanding. I have a GTX580, it was realised in 2010 and I can yet run Arkham City in full graphics. I don't mind keeping it for another year since the games I play don't require a better gpu. For the sake of argument, a GTX780 ti will still be good in three years but surely after that you may consider upgrading.

If you are using "low settings" as the benchmark and assuming you are playing games at 1920x1080 it will take a very long time before you will need to drop settings to "low" in order to play games.

My Radeon HD 5850 is still quite capable of playing games at 1920x1200 resolution. It has just recently went over the "4 year old" mark and I can still use it to play games. Perhaps no longer at very high settings, but for medium or medium to high combo settings I still get pretty good performance; minimum of 45 FPS.

Same here, still able to play games with my HD5850 at 1920x1200. And I see your computer specs is similar to what I have.

i finished far cry 3 on 1366x786 mid to high settings on a hd4770 512mb ... you will run games on "low" settings maybe after some 10 or more years with that... i'm just saying

Probably always going to be able to game at 1080p on a 780ti. 1080 won't be the standard for that much longer though.

780ti is way way wayyyyy more powerful than the graphics hardware of the new consoles... and most games will be made for those for many years to come... you are very safe
