I have a WD mirror edition set up as a raid 0 with two 500gb drives. My outer case that acts as a hardware raid is damaged. Would it be possible to set up a software raid on windows/ubuntu or a hardware raid on my Asus M5A99FX Pro 2.0 to recover the files from them?

Just to be technically clear - If it was your only copy of those files then it wasn't a backup. A backup is a second (or more) copy of a file. I suggest a minimum of 3 copies to my customers, this way when your drive fails you still have a copy of your important files and a backup copy. Rule#1 is "Never trust your important files to a single device" and if you only have 1 backup then when your drive fails it leaves you in violation of Rule#1. Notice I said 'when your drive fails'. All drives fail; don't trust them.

Let us know if you get your files back or not. It might help someone else in the future.

Sorry about the wait. I did manage to get a replacement board from ebay to get all of my files off the drives. I wasn't using it as a backup but an extra storage solution that I could tote around, I wouldn't have had it in raid 0 if i was using it as backup and I had all of my important files backed up on the cloud. I just wanted to get some code I had for an old website so that I wouldn't have to retype it. Thanks for all the info.
