Hello,

I have a Toshiba dynabook Satellite T571 / W5TE, and while I was using it, it suddenly crashed. When I turned it back on, I was unable to connect or see any wifi networks. It says that there are no connections available. When I look under devices, I can see the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, but I can't see anything that has wireless, wifi, or WLAN. Furthermore, the Realtek PCIe GEB Family Controller icon in the task bar has a little red x next to it.

I don't have an Ethernet connection at my house, only pocket wifi, so I can't test to see if it works with a wired connection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The Realtek PCIe GbE (Giga bit Ethernet) is more than likely the LAN port, I assume it is disabled for security purposes. (The machine cannot connect to a physical LAN when it is disabled).

As for the WLAN or WiFi, you might want to check the BIOS on the machine.

Also give Safe Mode a shot, and see if you can show Hidden Devices and remove all the WiFi Network Adapters.

Then reboot normally.

Oh, Do you suspect that the machine has a virus or malware?

I know it's a Toshiba but I'm asking anyway as it sounds like it has been mostly problem free up until now.

EDIT: If it says there are No Connections Available, that might mean that there IS a WiFi adapter listed under Device Manager::Network adapters. :)

Thank you for the reply!

I gave what you suggested a try, and no dice. I also scanned for viruses, and cleaned them out. Still, nothing. I tired reinstalling the driver, and that didn't work either. Now it doesn't even have a driver listed, even though I did install it.

I'm really at a loss as to what to try next.
