I have an h80i at the moment which is defective so I'm going to have to get a new cooler. I ordered the Scythe Ninja 3 air cooler just because I loved the look of it and did not want to be paranoid about water leaking on my system anymore. However after doing some more research I read that liquid cooling is better. I am so confused!!

What CPU are you cooling? are you overclocking?
Proper liquid cooling systems can be much better than Air cooling, but closed loop systems are usually not usually much better than a good air cooler, and they have more things to go wrong.

Agreed. For 4.0GHz I´d probably stick with air cooling. Unless your really like the looks of liquid cooling.
From 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz I´d think about AiO cooling (depending on your chip).
And for everything above custom loop would be my choice. Always depending on your chip of course.
