have 6gb ram installed but 4 gb usable why???

I just purchased msi 970a g46 mobo and the mobo is awesome but when i instal 4 gb of ram in the first black slot windows booted and use 4 gb when i instal 2gb in the blue slot windows ok but use 3.97 gb .....i dont know why???


i have one 4 gb and one 2 gb ram please help me

This is probably due to your operating system being 32-bit, and not 64-bit

To check if your version of Windows is 32 or 64 bit. Right-click Computer, click properties. In the main window it should say whether or not you have 32 or 64-bit Windows.

If you have 32 bit windows, you can only use the 3.97 GB of RAM. 64-bit windows does not have this issue.

You will need to reinstall windows as 64 bit to be able to use your full 6GB of RAM

If this is not your issue. I'm not too sure. But it sounds to me that is what is going wrong.
