what i have:

modem: AT&T 2wire 2700HGV-B
router: Netgear WNDR3400v2
range extender: Netgear WN2500RP

My modem and router are hooked up together via ethernet cord at the bottom right of my house. My computer and my range extender are at the top left of my house. for the past few weeks my range extender has been showing my 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks as red and yellow(bad). I use the 2.4ghz. I'm not entirely sure how my extended network speed all of a sudden became unacceptable. Any ideas on how to set up the modem, router, and extender to work together efficiently?

Why would you put the range extender in the same room as your computer. It is not some box that magically creates a strong wireless signal.

A wireless range extender needs to be able to receive a good signal and then retransmit it to your computer in the theory maybe it will work because it is closer than the original. If the range extender cannot get good signal then it has nothing to retransmit.

In general you want to place the range extender 1/2 way between the router and your PC.
