Hey guys. :)

I'm wondering whether or not I can have a HD Radeon 7970 in my build. My build is as follow..

Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3
RAM: 8GB Ballistix 1866mhz
CPU: AMD FX-4100 Bulldozer Black edition @ 4.0ghz (Can I OC this more?)
GPU: AMD Powercolor 7770 (This is what I'll be replacing)
PSU: Corsair CX600w
HDD: Some 1TB HDD.. I don't know the specifics.

I have enough connectors on my PSU, I have two 8/6 pin connectors PCI-E. So that's not a problem because from what I've read it need one 8 pin PCI-E & a 6 pin PCI-E connector to power this. I looked up it needs 500w minimum (AMD Requirements) I'm just wondering whether or not the rest of my build will handle it. What should I upgrade? What should I keep? What should I lose? :) Also if I wanted to (in the future) CF this 7970 card, what would I need etc? Would I be better off CF'ing 7870? As that's what I've been thinking of doing.

If I've missed any important things you'd like to know just say :) Thanks in advance for your help.

Solution
You should be fine with an HD7970 in that setup, as long as it will fit in your case (the cards tend to be about 11.5 inches long).

In addition, I wouldn't take the FX4100 any further, unless you have an aftermarket cooler.

Solution
I would get a different processor first 6300 will work way better with the 7970 ( watch some cards are actually dual 8 pin like the vapor x etc)

But if you wanted to xfire your psu should be ok but your still better off with one strong card

also make sure you get a support for your card or make one these thing flex after a while and put a lot of stress on your pcie slot

So, having the 4100 will effect the performance but I can have it, mixed reviews here as one said yes & one says no. PSU & Motherboard wise will I be fine? The card is 11.5 inches long? That's long, I may have to upgrade my case for that. I'd need a Full ATX case right? @rad666, what aftermarket stock would you suggest if I was to stick with the 4100 & OC it? :)

Thanks for your help guys.
