I recently bought a lenovo g500 i5-3230 quad core 2.6 GHz 3.2 with boost. It has 6gb of ram 1tb HDD and an amid HD 8750m GB DDR3 dedicated graphics, when I try running games like no more room in hell and fuel and some other games on ultra everything it runs perfectly with no lag at all. But when I try running games like metro 2033, planet side 2 and games like these it runs so lagy (on ultra) but works fine on high. However I see people running these games on ultra with the same GPU or weaker GPUs on ultra without any problems. Even some of them use much weaker specs and they run the game perfectly on ultra. Please help me anyone I bought this laptop 3 weeks ago and its already not working as it should. I didn't download any thing yet and I didn't upgrade anything at all. Please reply fast.

Solution
Download a software called GPU-Z, it will show every details about the card.

The memory type (DDR3 or DDR5) and the bus speed (64 or 128 bit) are major factors for the card to perform well. Check out yours. Do not expect a good performance with DDR3 and 64 bit. You can monitor your card's performance too while running a game.

Well for starters you have a dual core processor with hyperthreading, not a quad core. The 8750m is a lower middle class mobile GPU (below a 640m even), so i am afraid that you may have been very misled to the expected performance.

Edit: Here are some benchmarks if you would prefer: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8750M.87147.0.html

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-3230M-Notebook-Processor.84823.0.html

The 8750m is a low class graphics card I'm afraid, even though it has 2 Gb of VRAM the memory type is DDR3, which in a nutshell performs much slower than the standard GDDR5 today, the low memory bandwidth in DDR3 cards prevents the card from working fast enough to play demanding games like Metro and PS2.

Its actually a fast-middle class GPU and it should run games much better than this, and as I said people with much worse specs running the same games on ultra, some people told me that it's a good GPU and yes i knew that my i5 is a dual core but it performed close to the quad core with less heat, anyways people told me to download the latest catalyst center or whatever it's calls but I didn't do anything. Once again I see people running bf4 and crysis 3 on the same GPU with much worse specs on high with a pretty good fps.

Which is so annoying, even my brother has an i7 2.1 GHz 8gb ram with and 7670m running better than me.

Radeon 7670m can come in either DDR3 or GDDR5, and so can yours, the Radeon 8750m

it looks like you got the short end of the stick, if you had the GDDR5 card then you would've been able to run your games way more smoothly, I'm going to say this once more: because your card is running on DDR3 type memory, it will perform poorly

Well I know this is going to sound so dumb. But I don't really know a lot about desktops. And I am not really sure if it's a GDDR5 or is it a DDR3, so how can I make sure which one is it? And BTW when I bought this laptop from Emax I was told that it's really solid and good for gaming, perhaps I have been fooled :( and again people with this very same gpu (DDR3) performe much better than me. Please I'm so sorry I am talking a lot. But this problem is seriously annoying me. And on game debate (site) it says that I should performe much better on the same games. Sorry for my bad English.

Sorry for pissing u off ... ;) but mobility GPUs are pretty crap.. even in the costliest of Laptops....
If you are interested in Gaming build your own custom PC. There are lots of experts in this forum who can help you out.

Do not forget to pick the answer as solution if that helped... thanks

Wait wait, It says that my bus width is 32. But when i try running a game and checking it says that my bus width is actually 128 bit. and goddammit it's a ddr3 :C And btw which one tells me if i have a 2gb or 1gb?

Check the link I provided... there will be picture of where you would see the details.. generally its on the first tab of the application itself. However 2gb will NOT have any impact on the performance....

Okay, so the 2 gb doesn't mean a much betterr performance, But it DOES give a bit of better performance. Anyways as i said it is a 128 bit. So once again i don't think it is running as it should. Or my laptop my laptop is not for gaming at all. How about if i turn the resolution to medium on very demanding games like bf4 and crysis 3? (only textures quality on ultra) Would the game run good on avg fps from 40-50? Or should i run these games on this laptop: HP Pavilion G6 Intel core i7 quad core 2.1 ghz (i'm pretty sure it's a quad core) boosts to 3.1 8GB Ram 750 HDD With this amd 7670m 2GB DDR3 (128 bit) would this laptop be better than my other one? Btw the GPUs in the two laptops are upgrade-able but where can i buy a good Graphics card with a nice price? And seriously fuck you AMD. Nvidia is much better. I was gonna get a laptop with Nvidia GTX 750 But i thought that fucking amd is better :(

yeah it's tricky that way, and I don't think you'll be able to run BF4 and Crysis 3 very well, you may be able to on low and with some of the lower resolutions, but overall your GPU won't be able to handle much.

sorry to say, I have no idea where to get chips for upgrading since I don't usually upgrade my laptops other than maybe a new hard drive :\ gotta watch out for the memory types (it's easy to overlook it since the standard nowadays is GDDR5, but you have to be careful and know your components)

How about on medium quality And no FXAA and no motion blur? Well i get a good fps? I'm asking alot because i see many people running the game on high with fps 30-35 on the same GPu and the same ddr3 which is kindda good. But anyway i'm really disappointed with the AMD graphics. I'll just build a PC with a real gaming GPU Nvidia GTx 770. Thank you guys so much. you helped me alot!

it might be okay for medium settings at 30 FPS, just make sure you do everything you can software wise to boost performance such as getting the latest drivers, not running anything in the background, etc.

oh and for future reference on laptops (since you may or may not still want them for mobility and convenience), it's better to go with Nvidia on the graphics since it's easier to tell which is a GDDR5 or DDR3 and such, the Geforce GTs are DDR3 while the GTXs are GDDR5. AMD chips on the other hand have many that can come in both flavors and it gets really confusing.

:p AMD isn't responsible for it, rather its a more value for money.. just that it provides DDR5 and DDR3 versions for same model .. you just have to check it throughly... As lmaonade200 said if you are unable or not willing to spend effort and time on research for more information on the purchase go for nvidia, both are good on their own terms...

Ok, so now I need some help with building the PC. After I knew how weak my laptop was I am not gonna buy a laptop again. Just a PC. Anyway I want to know what are the best specs I need if I want to go for ultra quality on a good fps of 45-60 and at the same time I want a very good price. I don't want to go for like a very kick ass gaming PC with Nvidia 770 or Amd R9 290x or whatever, I just want a good PC that will get me good fps on the next gen games. And I want to know how many years will it live with me. And is it true that laptop's GPUs die much faster than a desktop GPU? And thank you guys again so much.

Start another thread with your requirement. a lot of people here with overall knowledge they can help you out. I have a PC with basic build of late 2010.. just added the PSU and GPU. Here is my config

CPU: Intel core i5 2400 3.10 Ghz
MoBo: ASUS P8H61 MLX
RAM: Zion 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
PSU: Corsair VS550 (new)
GPU: Sapphire HD 7770 1GB Ghz edition(new)
HDD: Seagate barracuda 500GB
Optical Drive: LG 8x RW DVD
Cabinet Zebronics Aviator

I can run latest games like Hitman Absolution, BF3, Arkham Origins without any lag over 50 FPS in medium - high settings

You can get this config within 30-35K nowadays with a newer CPU newer MoBo and 1TB Hdd
