I have a Sapphire 7970 dual X oc ed. Gaming on a Dell U2713HM 2560x1440 resolution.

I already asked if crossfire was viable now because of driver fixes. Couple of responses said it was fine now especially on single monitors and below 1600 resolution. There were videos about a 280x paired with a 7970. Eyeing a 280x dual X also if I go this route as they are cheaper than 7970s here at the moment.

I am unsure because I havent tried sli or crossfire as I have been choosing a single gpu solution for years now.

All this hype about those 290 / 290x / 780 is giving me a hard decision. Sell my 7970 and upgrade to a 290 / 290x / 780 or crossfire would be fine for my resolution and ultra settings for the next 2-3 years?

Gaming and movies on my PC, no productivity at all :) )

I hope I can get feedback from people who have legit crossfire experience. Thanks guys!

Since the crossfire setup would be cheaper and more powerful most of the time, I would go with that. Single screen frame pacing is pretty much fixed up through the drivers, and multiple monitors is currently being worked on.

Do you think this system would be futureproof for 2-3 years in 1440p?

since frame pacing is only fixed in certain dx11 titles, and doesnt work in dx 9 games, and multiple monitors and 4k is unlikely to get fixed, and some games just dont work well or at all with crossfire, 290 or 290x is plenty for a single monitor...
i have owned both crossfire and sli setups, and even games they work well with it only takes one game and you hate it and wish you had just bought a faster single card. just traded in my 660's in sli for a single 7970 and its much better, despite performing slower in benches.

The Gigabyte R9 290 would give you the best bang for your buck at that resolution.

No benchmark for Crossfire 290s?

AA turned on in that graph?

I'm now itching to buy a 290. Even a reference. Where are those non reference models when you need them?! :(
