Hi there, The 760 performs marginally better than the R9 270x in some tests and the R9 270x better in others so there's not much of a difference. They use a very similar amount of power so that is no problem assuming you have a PSU powerful enough to sustain both of them. In my opinion both Sapphire and MSI produce good AMD cards but I am slightly biased to Sapphire as I'm using one. Here are some charts for GTX 760 vs R9 270x

so for the £50 difference is it worth it for like 5-10% more performance

That's something you have to decide for yourself as it's your parents money that is being spent. Personally I'd go for the R9 270x as money can be tight in families coming up to Christmas etc.

No, unless you really like PhysX then their is no need.
Their even coming out with a dual GPU GTX 760 apparently for $250 USD.
As for the AMD gpus mentioned I would go with Sapphire, but if you can more options look into the HIS iPower TURBO BOOST CLOCK. It has more power phases than most cards.

HIS iPower TURBO BOOST CLOCK this type of card is not available in the UK, trust me I know as I'm from the UK as well.

Edit, Nevermind I've found it but it seems to be fairly rare in the UK that said you can find it on Amazon.

This, you could get a R9 280X if you wanted though as it performs better than the 760.
