My Q9550 is still chugging along nicely at 3.8Ghz for nearly 5 years now. I'm curious as to how powerful I can go graphics wise without it being a major bottleneck.
Now running GTX 570...

Thank you very much

The CPU is quite old, those who have new current video cards might also have updated CPUs.
Just grab the card you want and stop worry about bottlenecks.
The GTX 570 is still decent, maybe it can't play the latest game on Ultra, but medium quality to low with bit of tinkering and is playable, then is okay too.

This is the problem with some of us who plays games. Why does it need to be at 60+ FPS?
Any reasons for it besides just to get a high frame rate? If the game can run at 59 FPS does that mean it's unacceptable?
I'll be extremely happy if my hardware (similar to yours) can run BF4, even if it's at 30-40FPS.
Assuming everything else is still good, then we need to upgrade the processor, ram, motherboard, and graphic card

...playing multiplayer you will be very happy to have 60+ fps without deep drops
bf3 is enough laggy and having low fps makes a game even worse.
thank you for your time but i will stick with a "green" card,if you know what I mean...
I have about 300 euro ...

Your CPU is almost 100% certainly bottlenecking your existing GTX 570 card. Upgrading will be a waste unless you also upgrade the CPU to an i5.

From experience I can say I had a Q9650 paired with 8GB of ram running 2 GTX 560ti's in SLI and later a GTX 680 and it wasn't bottle necking with games like BF3 on Ultra, you should not have a problem running something new gen thats not too high end , go for a GTX 760 or 770, You won't have much of a bottleneck if any at all

Run a benchmark 3 times on your system, reboot between each run. Average the scores. Overclock your 570 (if you can and are willing to do so), run the benchmark again the same way 3 more times, average the scores. If you see an increase, you will be OK with a video card upgrade.

You're right about the speed though, it's a pretty nice boost over stock, you may have some room but I'd try an OC on the video card and make sure before getting anything new. I have a 9550 in my system but it's an HP workstation with no overclocking or I'd give it a shot and see how high it can go.

Hi there.
I am running a Q9550 clocked @ 3,67ghz.
2x GTX470 (runs with Hyper-SLI hack) on a S775 Asus Rampage Formula.
During Battlefield 3 (preset ultra) my GPU load on both cards is roughly 90%.
CPU load is around 80%.
2x GTX470 is about as fast as a single GTX770, and a mildly overclocked Q9550 can easy provide enough data for these cards.
As a mather of fact I am thinking about a new GTX970 which will probably fully stress my CPU.
The Q9550 (if overclocked) is fast enough for current high end videocards (except for maybe a Titan or a 780 Ti which will cause the CPU to bottleneck).
Good setups imho for this CPU are:
2x GTX760 SLI
1x GTX770
GTX970
etc.
