High DPI Mice

Does a high DPI really mean more accurate, or is it just a higher sensitivity? Does anybody have an answer from a reliable source because I hear from one place that it doesn't matter than another person says a high DPI is more accurate.

it depends really.

technically increasing a mouse dpi means that it is capable of better accuracy provided you turn down the mouse speed in windows settings. however being more sensitive can also mean that it picks up slight jitters from your hand which can result in innaccuracies. its a double edged sword really.

you want enough dpi that you dont have the mouse making erratic movements from not enough sensor information and dont want it so high that it makes eratic movements from hand vibration. with high dpi you can also increase mouse speed while retaining the same accuracy.

for example if you use 400dpi when you increase to 600dpi by default you will get a faster mouse speed but if you turn down the mouse speed you will get more accuracy.

then throw into the whole mix the sensitivity values in games.

often there is a bunch of fiddling.

most people use between 800-1800 dpi settings. personally i prefer around 1200 on a mouse which can go up to 3500. some people prefer more or less... depends on your preferences.

So basically I want to use the highest DPI I can in the range of my sensitivity?

basically what i'm saying is that you will need to feel it out on your own.

pick a dpi... pick a speed.

if it moves to fast adjust speed down.
if it jitters too much adjust dpi down
if the mouse is too fast and you cannot adjust it down move the dpi down and adjust the mouse speed back up.

once you have windows set... then adjust in games.

a good starting point is 800 or 1200dpi and medium windows mouse speed.
