Hi,

I have a laptop hard drive that refuses to work. On the laptop it was installed while starting Windows (or slightly before) it would either give the STOP error for NTFS.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA or a Disk read error (CTRL-Alt-Del restart).

I tried the hard drive on another computer and as soon as I powered up the hard drive the second computer would receive the same stop error. I have tried running windows recovery console from the Windows 7 DVD, but as soon as the background for the console comes up that same BSoD.

Has this hard drive gone bad? Is there any hope?

I can't even access DOS/Windows/a DVD or CD while the drive is active. All the computer will do is POST, start loading window, then either go black screen, BSoD or just restart. Windows recovery and Safe Mode are inaccessible.

I'm checking it out for a friend and they had a bunch of data that was of some importance to them.
