I've been planning to build another for my relative and I was thinking to which GPU with future proof is good for that max resolution gaming with only a single monitor?

It will be with a processor of i5 4670k.

Will a GTX 780ti be an overkill or should I consider a much cheaper GPU?

No problem. It's a simple as sending a text! lol

I say go with a GTX 760. You should be able to max out just about every game @ 60+fps, and since the price has dropped considerably lately, it's a damn good value.

But a 7950 or 66ti would be plenty good enough if you can find a deal on one. I know my lil bro got his 660ti on amazon for under $200. My friend got his 7950 off of newegg for like $190.

I think anything better than a GTX 760 will be a waste on a single 1080p monitor. My lil bro maxes almost every game on 1080p with his 660ti. My friend maxes almost everything with his 7950, his bro plays everything on high with his 7850. I believe a 760 will be overkill, and anything better is wasting money.

If you want a good GPU with the best performance/price ratio, look for a GTX 770 or R9 280/280X. It will allow you to max out games in ultra or very high.

If you don't want to spend too much and you are more budget oriented, then GTX 760 or R9 270 will be very good already and you will be able to play also on High but probably without AA settings.

P.S : I am refering to recent games such as BF4 or so

Were any of the mentioned cards able to ultra bf4 with a considerable fps? He was planning on playing that.

For the cheapest deal you can find on a GPU, I'd go with a GTX 660Ti Minimum, you will easily hit Max settings with a single GPU, I have a 650Ti and I can hit Max settings on 1 monitor. Shop around on newegg for the deals that come with the GFX card because you will get more for the dollar. But my recommendation GTX 680

comparing both 770 and 280x as of now. But if you would be personally ask, which of them would you prefer?

If my friend can get 45-50fps on ultra, then my little bro should also be able to get 45-50fps with his 660ti because the 660ti and 7950 are very similar in performance. I can ask him tomorrow. You can probably get close to 60fps on ultra with a GTX 760 assuming you have a decent cpu.

First off, I appreciate your effort on asking them personally of the results. I'm actually surprised that your friends have been getting a good number from those cards. I must have underrated them when I'm looking for alternatives. I'm no tech-geek so yeah this will help with me deciding on which.

Right now I would prefer the 770 since I have a GTX680 and I really like it, Nvidia as quite good product and drivers.
But I am waiting for the new Mantle infos and patch for BF4 to see if there is really a big performance improvement, if so I might switch to AMD with a R9 280X or 290 don't know yet.

Regards

the 280x is considerably faster than the 760 but ive seen 7950's for like $160 and the 7870LE for $140. at that low of a price there is nothing even close to the price to performance ratio of the 7950/7870LE. you can overclock a 7870le to reference stock 7970/280x levels anyways. id wait for black friday since is only a week away though.
