Hey everyone! This is my first time posting/joining this page and was wondering if I could get some help. I'm 18 years old and just started my freshman year of college. I'm more of a Mac user but since my school is Windows based, I wanted to look towards buying a Windows computer.

I've been looking towards the Dell XPS 8700 but was wondering what else was out there. I want a computer thats pretty fast to handle Photoshop and other editing services and also be able to do video editing but at a fast rate. Dell has a couple of different models with their 8700 series but was wondering if there is anything cheaper out on the market since I can't find many reviews for these pc's. The Dell I was looking at was equipped with an i7 at 24gb of ram and a 2tb harddrive, along with a 256 ssd.

Any help will be greatly apreciated!

I suggest you to build a desktop yourself. you can save a lot of money.

Also answer the below questionnaire. Will help the experts to guide you. Add as many details as possible.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: Most probably Jan 14 if not Apr 14. Its said "warlords of Draenor" may get released sooner than we expect. So want to gen it to the groove before it gets released.

Budget Range: 800-1000 $

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies, work (seldom)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: Need to buy everything new except Keyboard and Mouse

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, pcpartpicker.com or I shall buy from flipkart.com or any local store.

Location: City, State/Region, Country - Bangalore/Hyderabad, India

Parts Preferences: No specific preference

Overclocking: Maybe, if needed for gaming.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (don't know what this means)

Monitor Resolution: Need 1440x900 or above

Additional Comments: Can't tolerate any heating issues. should be flexible for further upgrades in future. I mostly play "WOW" and FPS games like Far cry, COD etc. I want to play these games in at least good settings if not Ultra.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Dysfunctional Dell Studio 1558. Worst Laptop ever.
