Why do monitors have a much broader range of resolution than TV's? Monitors have like 1080p 1440p 1600p 4k etc. But TVs have 1080p then jump to 4k. Why is that

Solution

That's you though, they make TVs to be used as TVs which means they configure it for TV standards. It just happens to be able to be used with a computer but they are not optimized for that. It's like asking why your Ferrari can't seat 6 people, it's not made for that.

if you are waching at a distance 720 p is enoghf for a 50 inch for over 50 inch you will need more resolution 1080p or even 4k. on a pc monitor you are most of the time not more than 1.2 meters away with high graphic games do be able to enjoy all the resolution the game i providing you need a good and sharp monitor with high resolution.

Because tvs are for a more casual user (think your 12 year old console gamer or adult occasionally watching a dvd or something on apple tv) they don't care about resolution unless its marketed as something that's a world better than what there use to (360p to 480p, 480p to 720p, 720p to 1080p and now 1080 to 4k) but a monitor is designed for like 1-5 feet away from your face and there for needs a very small dot pixel ratio and higher resolution. Also a pc enthusiast will actually know what the advantages to a new resolution are and not just that this resolution is better than the old standard and YOU MUST GET THIS NEW STANDARD!!!!

There are only so many TV broadcast standards, so there is 0 need for a TV to have a resolution different than the max you will get from the TV stations. Why would you want to have a 1200 or a 1600 line TV set when you are getting 1080 from the input signal?
