Just got the HP Pavillion touchsmart 14z laptop yesterday in the mail (I ordered it online), it connected to the the wi-fi internet for a couple hours and then it stopped. Did a factory reset (in case I did something) and it still won't work. Password is fine, Wi-fi button is on, called comcast and they refreshed the signal. Phone and xbox both can connect to wifi, just not the laptop. Also, it connects to the internet with the ethernet cord fine, just not the wifi.

- Check the wifi adapter in device manager (does it work properly?)
- Scan wireless to see if the wifi adapter can detect any signal. If it doesn't list any SSIDs near your house, assuming you are not living in the middle of nowhere, it's highly probable that your wireless adapter has problem
- With the Ethernet LAN connected, search device driver for the wireless adapter and install it
- Check the wifi setting on both laptop and router: SSID, channel selection, protocol (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac - there can be mixed modes, and should be matched), security type, password

Thanks for your reply! It picks up many other SSIDs and unfortunately I cannot try them because they are all locked, and it picks up mine only sometimes, even when I'm right next to the router. I will try the last 2 steps when I get home after work and let you know !

I suggested the scan just to see if the adapter is working properly, not to use other routers, which is not possible these days because most people set up password anyway, but also risky to your security. If your adapter can pick up other SSIDs easily, while cannot yours, it means your router has problem. However, you mentioned that other devices are connected to the router without problem. That's strange.
