Why nvidia 800 series is announced in 2010 although they hadn't released the 600 series.why it took 4 years to launch it??is something wrong??and how about the 20 nm architecture.will they use it for 8 series

Solution
Er, well...things take time?

NVidia gets its chips manufactured by TSMC and TSMC has to build a new process just to make 20nm chips. Also, Kepler got postponed, which pushes back Maxwell. As these manufacturing processes get smaller and smaller, yields get lower and lower, while things just get more complicated in general.

And there's plenty more reasons why companies announce things years in advance.

We called that as roadmap. Have you seen nvidia latest roadmap? There were already a tidbit about architecture that will succeed Maxwell ( 800 series?). as for the process node maxwell will most likely to use tsmc 20nm process node. Maxwell should be a significant jump and more complex than kepler in term of transistor count. They already hit the limit on what they can do on 28nm with GK110. if nvidia wants to increase the complexcity without going larger than GK110 they need much smaller node than current 28nm
