I downgraded from Windows 8 to 7 due to some high disk and cpu related problems and after downgrade the problems were solved and initially my laptop was running finw with Windows 7 and since it was latest i upgraded it to 8 but after downgrading I loast all my drivers and installed drivers from the two year old factory disk of my latop and evrything was installed and the pc was working fine and after a day i tried to play battlefield 3 which was working fine in windows 8 but when i opened it the screen flashed three times(unusual in my laptop) and the game came up and I began playing but I also is suffering from 5 fps drop in gameplay than usual. why is this happening ? Is it because of a driver problem or some other problem ? Kindly help me.

Solution
Get the latest drivers from the vendor support site.

5fps going between Windows versions is not that bad, it can easily happen due to minor differences. Now if you were getting 15fps and now getting 10, that is pretty bad. If you had 30 and went to 25, not so odd.

Plus keep in mind you need to compare the exact same game settings? Are you playing in the same quality and resolution settings are in WIn 8?

I have ATI mobility radeon hd 5650 card and I tried to install the latest updates but while installation I got blue screen with atikmpag.sys causing it but the driver worked well in Windows 8. The blue screen error message was Attemp To Reset Display Driver And Recover From Timeout Failed and then I reformatted and installed factory drivers and now it works fine but fps problem is still on. I downloaded the driver from the amd site and it is both windows 8 and 7 64 bit compatible but why does it cause errors in Windows 7 ? Help me and is there any not too old drivers and not the latest but which should increase performance or can help me buy any other means.

Laptop video drivers are almost always only supported by the laptop maker, not by the video chip maker. That is probably the issue when you tried to use the AMD drivers. As I said in another post, 5fps is very likely due to just slight differences in the drivers and operating system differences. What is the total % drop you see? If the game went from playable to not playable because you lost 5fps, that means you had pretty low performance to begin with.

What is the brand and model of laptop? Did it have official Windows 7 drivers from the vendor?

You may want to start clean again, new Win 7 setup, run all the updates for it, then go to the vendor site and install the drivers from there. Start with the chipset/motherboard, then do the audio, video, power management, etc...

Dell Inspiron N5010. I installed old drivers from Dell Reaource Disk which came with it and also the new dricers worked in Windows 8 all the time and before a hard drive failure two moths afo the drivers also worked in Windows 7. Now works only in 8 but I want it in 7.

did you go from 64 bit to 32 bit? did you copy any of the files from one comp to another? try doing a fresh install of everything
