Yes the FX 6300 is compatible. You could also get an 8 core processor if you want to spend the money. The FX 8320 is about $160 and the FX 8350 is usually around $190. Both 8 cores.
Of course there are a few quad core cpus too. The FX 4300 starts at around $95.

Hold on a minute what revision is your motherboard
3.1 revision only supports
up to bulldozer i would recomend checking revision in bios
if this version get phenom 965 as bulldozer crap

Final version of motherboard finally supports viresha
fx 6300
revision numbers can be found on motherboard as well as seen in this picture top left of the board

you could go with a 6 core phenom if your board cant handle fx viresha fx 6300
also you will need
new power supply 600w
660 ti or 7870
