Cooling for the FX8350

Hello,

I'm planning on buying an FX8350 and an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 in the Corsair Vengeance C70 case. I'm going to put 2 Cooler Master JetFlo 120 PWM in front and 1 on top and 1 in the rear. I'm going to control them with the Bitfenix Recon. I'm propably going to OC to 4.5Ghz or try to go even higher if I can.

But I don't know about the CPU heatsink and such. I was thinking of getting a Phanteks PH-TC12DX in red
I'm also going to use Gelig GC-Extreme because it is a very good cooling paste people say. But for the fans on the heatsink, what should I get? Do I need higher CFM or higher Static Presure and if we are talking about this subject what would you recommend me for fans on the heatsink.
btw this is my current shopping cart: http://azerty.nl/winkelmandje/winkelmandje/?legen=1&product%5B563663%5D=1&product%5B543061%5D=1&product%5B509161%5D=1&product%5B473878%5D=1&product%5B10824%5D=1&product%5B632902%5D=4
Going with a Red/Black theme

Kind regards,
Ruben

The stock fans that come with the Phanteks PH-TC12DX are already fairly formidable. For use on heatsinks, having a higher static pressure is desirable. If you don't mind the extra noise, the before-mentioned Corsair SP120 Performance Editions may give better performance. I would wait and see how the stock performance is before dropping another $30 on a cooling solution that already is going to be $50.

So for a heatsink, more static pressure is better?
Edit: Sounds max 40db because I care about sound a little bit. The loudness isn't very important to me at all. Except if it sounds like a vacuum cleaner :p

As a general rule, yes.

The idea behind it is that a forceful airflow is going to be less affected by turbulence and other forces of friction. Anytime airflow meets any sort of object, the disturbance interrupts the airflow and slows it down. Even when blowing parallel to a flat surface, the air closer to the surface will be traveling slower than the air further away, since the closer air is constantly colliding with the surface (and other disrupted air particles). With more static pressure, the airflow is better able to overcome these affects.

There is a point of diminishing returns, of course. Anandtech did a fan round-up, and and the Noctua NF-F12 and the Enermax Magma performed approximately the same (on an H80i). The NF-F12 moves ~55 CFM, with static pressure of ~2.6 mm/h20, the Magma moves ~70 CFM with a static pressure of ~1.5 mm/h20. They even scored similarly in decibels. Would I get an SP120 fan then? And do I need the PWM or non PWM version if I use it as a CPU cooler, my guess is PWM though.
The SP120 has 62.74 CFM and 3.1 mm H2O.

PWM would be more convenient.

Yes, if you wanted to spend an additional $30, you could buy a pair of SP120 Performance Editions; they would work better than the AF120s. You may gain a couple degrees of difference in thermal performance from the stock fans.

I'm going to try to get a nice overclock of 4.5Ghz or higher so the couple of degrees are important for me :p Also, do you know some other high Static Pressure fans that doesn't cost +20$ for only 1?
If not I'll get the SP120. Do you also get a boost in Push-Pull over Push?

Rather than spending excess cash to eke out better performance, and have to suffer from much-added noise, just invest in the Phanteks PH-TC14PE; the dual-tower big brother. Just make sure that you have case and RAM clearance.

There have been some people who managed to get 5.0 ghz with their FX-8350.

Well, I have kingston HyperX ram so it propably wont fit. Does it reach 5Ghz with that cooler? :O I'm amazed!
Edit: I saw a review of the PH-TC14PE and it cools 1°c better :O Maybe the video is s*** but here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDGeRHC4BdA
I've seen some pictures of the TC14PE in the corsair C70 but it's only with their side panels of. And can't you put in in pull/pull, like you put your first fan in the middle and your second at the back?
Edit again: They say it can only be mounted bottom to top in AMD systems °.° Guess I'll have to choose a different CPU cooler :( anyone knows some other nice CPU coolers which can have normal ram?
It's basically the last thing I need and then I can order everything. Thanks for the help already Calculatron :)

Unless you have Hyper X Beast, or Predator, your RAM is, for all practical purposes, low profile. Even if you have all four DIMM slots filled, it should work with any cooling solution.

The larger Phanteks model allows for the installation of a total of three fans, and, when installed on an AMD platform, it is pointing east-to-west; so the fans are exhausting out the back of your case. The smaller model is the top-down only orientation, which isn't bad - having the fans exhaust towards the top can actually be more beneficial.

Here's a review where the temperature difference between the Phanteks models is 8: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-V8-GTS-CPU-Cooler-Review/1796/6 I'm sure if you dug deep enough, you'll find results all over the place.

I have kingston hyperX blu but does that enormous cooler really fit over the ram?
I saw a picture of someone with low profile ( he said ) and it was barelly not touching it

Calcu, thanks you're a hero! So I found the full written review of the Ph14: http://www.custompcreview.com/reviews/best-cpu-cooler-roundup-review-corsair-cooler-master-noctua-phanteks-zalman/17117/4/ and their HyperX fitted underneath. They look like they have the same height as mine. I'm also going to start a topic on Tech syndicate to see if it fits inside the C70. Do you know if it will fit and what fans do you recommend on the Ph14?

They improved their fans. The older ones weren't as good as the ones they have now. Well, I'm going to make a post on TechSyndicate right now :) btw thanks for the help.

Yeah, I got some nice answers on TekSyndicate. Someone had to lower his fans 5mm to fit in the case and he had Crucial Balistix Tactical, those are 30mm high he said. These HyperX blu are 30mm too. I'd have to lower the fans 2mm in my case and I'm propably going to make a new side window for it.

And again Calculatron, thanks for all the help!
