I am going to be building a new PC setup soon for gaming. I am trying to decide whether I want a 3 monitor surround setup or just get one monitor. I will be playing a lot of FPS games so having a low response time is important, so I have narrowed it down to the Asus VN247H-P or the Benq XL2420te. I do not see a lot of value to having 2 displays so I was thinking I could grab 3 of the Asus monitors for about 600$ or I could grab one Benq for 300-350$ and save some money. Really, the thing about the Benq monitor that is appealing is the 144HZ. I am just not sure if it is really that important and I cant afford 3 Benq Monitors if I decide that it is.

Also, I will most likely be running a single 780ti for a GPU. I was debating dual 770's but I think that would end up being more trouble than it is worth. Especially with new games not always running support for SLI configurations. Obviously I will want to run my games on the highest settings possible.

FPS games benefit from higher refresh rates, so the 144Hz is a must (depending on who you ask). Once I have enough money saved I'm definitely going to go with a 144Hz monitor, as I only really play FPS games.

I would go for a Benq. The 780 Ti can max out most games. Being able to utilize more than double the amount of frames that your GPU is producing rather than having them go to waste with a 60HZ monitor is optimal. Also, 144HZ gives you a good advantage in FPS games. If you really NEED a triple monitor setup, the R9 290 is the way to go as it has 4GB VRAM rather than only 3GB.

I am sure by the time I get to buying everything there will be a 4gb 780ti out. I am living in Greece for the next couple months so I wont be buying til I get back to the states. This will be my first build though so that is why I am trying to do my research early and trying to ask the right questions. I will not be playing exclusively FPS games, I just would want to be geared for that because something like the elder scrolls online is not going to be particularly dependent on my monitor and input lag. There is nothing about a triple monitor setup that I NEED per say. I the question is what gives you the best gaming experience between the better motion or the immersion that surround gives you? Is there a dramatic decrease in FPS on a surround setup? I would have thought it would have been fine on a 1080p resolution setup with how awesome these new cards are.

You may also look for costing on the Asus VG248QE. In the US it is cheaper than the BenQ and of equal quality. It also will support a G-sync upgrade kit, when G-sync is available.

Of course this depends on whether you want to go high FPS or wide views.
