I live in my grandmother's 3-4 store home near the beach. The house is 50-60 years, and walls in inside are practically made of concrete. My aunt a few long ago signed us up for dsl wireless internet from Verizon and our family is able to use our wireless devices. The only people who even use the internet are me, my mom and of course, are visiting my older sister, aunt and cousin. But now, I still can't get a solid, uninterrupted connection to my custom pc in my bedroom room through wireless using a pci-e wirless card. The router is located in my aunt's apartment one floor below and approximately 30 feet directly away from my bedroom below my floor. So what do I need to do strengthen the signal of the router? Optimize network settings? Upgrade or switch to better routers or providers? Get a repeater/extender or utilize a second router as a repeater? I'll accept any if all possible solutions and would like to take advantage of managing our network myself.

I would not use a repeater/extender, but would add an access point (or inexpensive router configured as an AP). An AP needs to be connected to the main router with an Ethernet cable (or a pair of powerline adapters if the cable is not possible).

The other option that works well with the newest models is a pair of powerline adapters like the Zyxel PLA5205kit and just skip the AP unless you need the wireless.
