I currently have a 560 ti 1.2gb. It has issues running the texture mods that I want along with other stuff(armour, world modifications). The game freezes (music plays) after a certain period of time.

What card can I upgrade to in order to get these mods running smooth. Should I go for a 4gb card? If so which one?

Trust me I know how you feel. I can't run skyrim with very many texture mods / ENBs either on my 6870 1gb.

Though the freezing might not be related to your GPU at all since you have quite a few mods.

Is it quick freezes such as stuttering or just a complete lock up/CTD etc?

Theres a really neat tool that you can use for skyrim and more specifically when you mod skyrims exe + .dll files (which cause afterburner to not work) It allows you to see how much Vram/CPU/GPU/Ram you are using and even gives you nice line charts to follow. I recommend it. Its called Skyrim Performance monitor

Theres also various texture optimizers which I also recommend as that can drastically reduce your Vram usage at the loss of very very very little image...

If you are using an ENB there is a nice addon to it called ENBoost.
