I've got:
AMD 965be @3.8ghz
8gigs pc1600
850 watt corsair PS
2 5850s in crossfire
Asus Crosshair III MOBO
1T WD HD

I'm wanting to play BF4 in ultra settings at 1080p. My current rig can play it at medium settings with AA turned low.

I'd like to stay AMD. Is it time? what would you reccomend?

Thank you!

I like the idea of up grading only the GPUs to one R9 280x 3 gig card. My current Mobo supports pcie 2.0 and these new cards are pcie 3.0. I was wondering if that will slow the R9 280x down or is that not an issue. If I can just upgrade my gpus and keep my rig the way it is that would be sweet on the old wallet. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'm looking at possibly adding 1 AMD r9 280x 3gig card. The only thing I'm not sure about is that that card is PCIE 3.0 and my mobo is PCIE 2.0. So, I'm sure it will work but will it be all bottlenecked? I'd like to only upgrade the gpus for now. and later build a new system with current mobo and a sweet new FX chip.

Thanks for your help.

The R9 280X will run fine on a PCIe 2.0 slot, and AFAIK you will not experience any decline in performance with that set up compared to a PCIe 3.0 slot. I would just go with the new GPU for now until the budget allows a full update when you really need it.

Uhm, 3.0 is back compat to 2.0.. BUT your Phenom will not bottle neck that, well... At least any noticeable bottleneck..
