Want to upgrade my graphics platform either by getting another GTX 660 ti for SLI or was considering going with a GTX 780 or a TI but not to sure if that would be overkill for 1080p gaming. I do have a buyer for my 660 ti if I do go the single card route. All I have currently is 1 monitor ASUS VG248QE 144hz. I like for my game play to be maxed and smooth as possible.

Honestly i dont have any issues with sli and if you getting a 780ti going sli down the road would give you a insane boost on performance. People always say "avoid sli" but with experience as of late i havent seen any heating, micro stuttering issues and scaling has been great for me

i recently had 660's in sli, and the performance was relatively good compared to the stuttering mess of xfire 6850's i had previously. but still didn't feel right. went to a single 7970 and now things just feel smooth again. i would recommend going for a more powerful single card than mid range sli.

The GTX 780 Ti didn't exactly get favourable reviews at the place that generally gives GeForce cards favourable reviews, [H]ardOCP. Here's a quote from them about the GTX 780 Ti vs. the R9-290X:

"When it comes down to bang for the buck, the Radeon R9 290X is offering that in spades. Even the Radeon R9 290 is close to R9 290X performance levels for a lot less expense. If you want the "fastest" video card, it is going to be the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. This cannot be denied, it has the fastest framerate performance, but only by a small margin. If you want to save some cash, and still get the same gameplay experience of the GTX 780 Ti, the Radeon R9 290X will save you $150."

Maybe it's really the R9-290X you want, but hey, it's your $150 to spend as you wish. :D
