So I was playing League of Legends on my desktop and I was in the middle of a match (my pc really heats up playing this!), and I was going out to dinner that night so I held down the power button on my pc till it shut off. Then once I got back I tried turning it on and everything runs but my monitor turns on then off then on then off and so on. And it sounds like my processor keeps turning on and the off like the monitor but not as rapid. And I can go into setup but it just will not boot. So anyone whats up with this thing?

Solution
If it really heats up playing League, then it must be pretty old. Might be time for a new pc ;)

When starting up, keep hitting F8 and see if you get the windows boot menu, if it does come up, try safe mode. If safe mode does come up, click start, then run, then type cmd and hit ok. at the command line, type chkdsk /r and hit enter (then it will probably say it will do a chkdsk upon next reboot). Then reboot it and let it check the disk.

The above is all assuming that its not a hardware fault and just the hard shut down has broken something in windows/boot.
You didn't fry your CPU, but I think that by not shutting Windows down properly, you may have corrupted your disc's boot sector. If a CPU is overheating, it will freeze or reboot the machine to save itself. Since that didn't happen, the CPU was never at risk.

Boot sector corruption doesn't do this, but neither does a hard power down. I'd say it is likely a defect in the motherboard, power supply, or CPU that just showed up with bad timing. The hard power down might have stressed it just enough to trigger it, but that shouldn't happen to a fully functional system. You'll have to try replacing each part one at a time to try to figure out what part is bad. The most likely culprit is the power supply, second most likely would be the motherboard. It is very rare to have a CPU go bad, but it is still possible.

i agree, it doesnt sound like you fried your cpu. if this problem hasnt been fixed yet try the following. turn off the power switch on your psu (back of the computer).then hold down the power button for a few seconds (fans will spin for a sec.).wait a couple of minutes and then switch on the psu and try starting the computer.if it asks you to run startup repair do so otherwise hopefully it will boot into windows.

Lol, Yea im getting a new kickass gaming one for Christmas, but I just need something to play League on until then. And none of the F keys are doing anything now. And if it helps when it did work I dual booted windows 7 and 8 so when I turn it on I get a choice to which one I want to boot to. And I noticed when it ran that if it was in an operating system it would take like 3 or 4 more seconds to do a hard power down. But when its in POST it shuts down immediately on a hard power down. And that's what it does now. And sorry if im not being clear. : \
