So last night I went to turn on my laptop, everything seemed normal for the first few seconds, until the screen turned black and read...
"Check cable connection!
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
The laptop was a gift from my friend, and he didn't give me anything else with it (except the charger). it really sucks because I can't get at my school work, and being a college student means you're pretty much broke. So I can't really take it anywhere to get it checked out at the moment. Any help I can get would be undeniably great. (I'm very NOT tech savy and this is all a big mess to me.)

Solution
so definitely you or someone else disconnect and reconnect the hard drive.on a lighter note this is not usually a message associated with a buggered hard drive.
any recent software or hardware changes. has it been dropped or bumped? you,or somebody who is more tech savvy will have to take the back cover off of the laptop to access the hard drive. then unplug it and reconnect the cable, both interface and power. then try booting up again.

Sounds like the harddrive became disconnected from the motherboard. It might not be seated properly. It could be as simple as removing the battery and disconnecting and reconnecting the harddrive to get it work. Always make sure the computer is powered down before going through the steps of removing the harddrive
If you want to make sure before you go through all that, turn the computer on and it'll either be F2 or F12 usually. Start pressing the one that says boot menu next to it on the bottom right hand of your computer screen. If you miss it the first time around, power the computer back down and try again. If the harddrive is listed in the boot menu, the computer still recognizes the drive, meaning its not disconnected but it probably failing. It is isn't recongnized, it could be disconnected or its already failed

I may have accidently elbowed it last night, but that's it. I treat it like treasure for this exact reason, because I know I suck at fixing things like this. Other than that there really haven't been any changes to it.
