Hello,

I am looking to build a new gaming computer that will run games good. Here is a list of the parts I have:

Intel i7 4770

GIGABYTE GV-N770OC-2GD GeForce GTX 770 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready WindForce 3X 450W Video Card

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Pro Gaming with Killer Networking & Sound Blaster Intel Motherboard

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

I still need a case, power supply, storage, and an optical drive for it but I am not that educated in what is the best product for my scenario. Any suggestions or changes to my system so far would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Solution

600-650w is NOT enough for the 770. And with all his other parts he needs at least a 700w.

If he is playing CPU heavy games like Skyrim or Crysis or pretty much any game with a ton of mods then it will make a difference. You should have stated "most" games.

And to the OP. Everything will fit...

Get the 4770k. It's pointless if you can't overclock.

RAM

High speed ram is important for future games. BF4 evidently loves high speed ram so future EA or other company games will use high speed ram to an advantage.

Get the G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB (2x4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 CL9

Will everything fit in this case? This is my first build so I want to be sure it works. Thanks for the reply.

No need for an i7. An i5-4670k will perform the same in games.
The NZXT Guardian is an old case. The Corsair 300R can be found for $50 after rebate at Newegg and it is better quality.
You would want a cpu cooler to overclock. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO at $30 would be a great one.
If you want to SLI in the future, you should grab a quality 850w psu so you'll have headroom for overclocking. If not, you'll be fine with a 600-650w psu.

Technically the psu is to power the system, but I guess you're trying to say that an i5 bottlenecks SLI 770s?
Bottleneck only happens when the gpu is significantly stronger than the cpu that the cpu can't keep up with the gpu in games. Notice I said significantly because games are mostly gpu-dependent. Since an i5 and i7 perform the same in nearly all game and the i7 only gets 2-4 fps increase in 3-4 games, how will getting an i5 bottleneck? An i5 will not bottleneck SLI 770s or 780s in games as it is a very strong processor for gaming.
And yes, the processor does help FPS in games.

Yes but it isn't exactly for FPS only. Anyway this argument is becoming irrelivent. An i7 would be better future proofed but it is the OPs decision if they want to save some money.

He can get the Storm Enforcer or 300r if the NZXT case really is that old.
