Are you using more than one monitor? If not then you don't need much video ram. Even Two monitors at 1920x1080 23" would do well with 2GB.

Having said that the higher Bitrate of the R9 290 is nice (512)
The R9 280x is well reviewed just make sure you have enough room in your case, it's a big card!

I agree here. The 290x is the superior card, hands down with its brother the 290 close behind. But unless you are running 4k, or multiple monitors at 1080p or above it is then not worth it. Below that, save the money on hardware that will never be used, and buy a 7950 instead. Great card and will last a long while, cheap too. Not overkill for less than 2 monitors.

If money is no issue, the 290 would be nice, but if you'd like to save some money, and sacrifice a little quality in game, but not a ton, I would say the 770 or 280x would be the way to go. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Nvidia so I'd say the 770, however, with mantle coming out the 280x at a lower price than the 770 and the slightly better specs on it, I'd say the 280x probably has the best performance to price ratio.

You'll still be playing on almost full ultra settings, maybe have to turn aa down a bit but should be just fine.

as Dom said though, it's a huge card, make sure there's room for it, with adequate cooling inside.

Yep should fit, 2 or 3 fans should be the least that you need, you can get more, but you wont have to. The drives should work as long as they are SATA cables and not IDE. I would get a new HDD anyway, as you would like more storage. My system is a few months old and I dont download much, already at 250 gigs.

I would recommend maybe an AIO cooler if you plan on OCing the CPU, but other than that everything looks good. I'm with Gam3r01 on the getting an HDD though.

Definitely the 280X. You'll max out all the games you're looking to play. Plus you can use the $100 you would have spent on a 290 and upgrade other stuff :D

Yeah the Samsung is a good drive. There are slightly faster/bigger ones but the price point goes WAY up from there.
Good drive for performance/reliability/price.
And I agree with everyone else you should be fine with two or three fans.
If you are going to overclock you should seriously consider liquid cooler for your CPU.

Lots of tutorials for beginners on the web, just google for a beginners tutorial.

I like the Swiftech H220 AIO Liquid cooler personally, but the H100i by corsair is quite nice as well.

lol You just have to avoid those little kids :p  it'll take patience but it's not something you want to try to learn in 5 minutes, or you could end up messing things up and damaging your precious PC haha

but yeah, the h100i is hefty but when you're overclocking you definitely want something that's beyond great rather than something that might fail you. cooling is a major deal when it comes to OCing
