Just ordered an Asus Sabretooth Z87 1150 motherboard, and realized I got UDIMM to go with it.. Specifically (8GBx2) DDR3 1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin.. I've read conflicting things about whether these are compatible.. Any help?
Thanks very much.

Hi,

Consumer DIMMs that you find in the store are UDIMMs (or Unbuffered DIMM), and will usually be branded as just DIMM.

The complementary form is RDIMM (or Registered DIMM) and are usually found in servers and workstations

Thanks very much! I had reasoned the same by reading Wiki for registered and unregistered RAM, and then saw someone else definitively stating that UDIMM and DIMM were made "for different kinds of motherboards (/answers/id-1729123/dimm-udimm-ram-compatible.html), so I wanted to make doubly sure. Much appreciation.

Ah. The lovely ability to unselect incorrect answers :)

You're most welcome.

UDIMM did not work with mine. NON-ECC is the way to go.Unfortunately, i put the correct search

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=2GB%20DDR3%20PC3-12800%20Unbuffered%20NON-ECC%201.5V%20256Meg%20x%2064

and still at the very top of the list was UDIMM that matched up otherwise....why Amazon would put UDIMM at the top of a non-ECC search is beyond me..and I'm sure countless others have fallen to this...and it was less expensive as to draw one into the trap....live and learn..

Buffering and ECC are separate technologies. While they are typically found together (ECC RDIMM), they can be found separately. There are RDIMMs without ECC, and UDIMMs with ECC.
