I built this wooden server rack to hold 3 poweredge 1950's and 2 poweredge 2850's, 2 switches, and a powervault. My friend says it might be dangerous because the servers might light the rack on fire. I dont really believe him, but just checking your guys's opinion just to make sure. the servers all run relatively cool, but i am in dry Colorado and well, fires start every time someone rubs two sticks together, so I am wondering. here is a picture of the rack for a reference point.

There is absolutely no danger from using those wooden racks.
It takes extreme situations for a system to even pass 100C, the system reaching ignition temperature is absolutely not a concern.

Infact there are even some pretty darn cool case mods from woodworking :)

I absolutely love this home made server rack. It is pretty rockin!

I think your friend is concerned for the right reasons, so with his concerns in mind keep in mind the following.

1. All plugs are plugged into a proper surge protector
2. Use something that has a short detection even a decent APC power bar has short detection. This is just in case something happens.
3. Ensure all products are properly grounded.

With regards to fire, I think if you have a fire in your place I'd be also concerned about your house burning down. With the safety measures above I wouldn't worry.
