Video Editing Trouble - Need Help

Hey Guys!

So I'm trying to edit some 1080p video in Pinnacle Studio 14 (17 is about to release) but my machine struggles to render just dropping a file into the timeline, or just a simple fade. So, I'm trying to find the bottleneck in the machine, as I'm going to upgrade soon.

My current rig is this - Xeon (I think 3rd Generation); I'm not sure how much RAM I have, but I know that can't be an issue because I literally can't load in just a single clip; Integrated Graphics (I have a separate machine with a Radeon 6450 that I'm going to try out (same other specs (I could also try a Quadro NVS 295))); some Dell motherboard (the system is a T3500 Workstation from Dell); Windows 7.

I think the bottleneck in the system is probably the graphics, but I want to know if this upgrade will render and edit 1080p video with ease:

i7 4770k
GTX 780 ti (6 GB when it comes out) and will SLI down the road.
16 GB 1866 (or faster) RAM
Some Capable MOBO
840 Pro
1 TB Black

I need to know if this will see an improvement in performance over what I'm using now... I was confused because I thought editing relied mainly on CPU power, but even with a Xeon I'm running into issues.

I'm having trouble just playing the clips back in Windows Media Player, too.

I know Pinnacle 17 has full CUDA support, so if I began using a GTX 780 Ti, would that just work, or would there be something specific I would need to do to get those benefits...

Thanks!

Of course you will see improvements! On the other hand you don't need to go that far up with your budget! I have a GTX580 and I can stream and edit videos, use photoshop and ANSYS (a professional 3D design software) WITHOUT any problems. You can see my rig in my profile's info. Also 6GB of gpu memory won't do anything on a single monitor setup in terms of performance (2 or 3GB is the identical value).
