My friend wants to upgrade her gpu, she just plays wow so she doesn't need anything special.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en... That site shows all of it's specs. I know I'm going to have to upgrade the psu soIi was thinking http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... that. Then for the graphics card i was thinking a amd 7950 or 7770. It says it can take a x16 point but it says nothing about the 3 so i dont know if thats a problem and then also it should fit but i dont. Also the original gpu is integrated, I dont know if that matters since it does say it can take a new with a 16 point. Just tell me if that would work fine and if not what i could do or if it would be better, or cheaper just to buy a new desktop.

500W should be fine.

Also there is no need of going for a high end graphics card. An HD7850 would be more ideal. On the other hand, such a card is still a high end solution, so you might get some bottlenecking in the system (mainly due to the processor). The best solution is to build a good mATX system with a low budget.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll build a system if she wants to spend the cash, but with the 7850 I'd still have to upgrade her 300w psu right?

Yeah we're going with the 7850 and the 500 watt corsair. The pin for the graphics card is 3x16 and I believe the system has x16 pci express and a 3 pci express x1 will it be able to take the 3x16 and if it doesn't is there an adapter?

Just put the card into the PCI Express x16 slot and you will be fine. The performance penalty is negligible when you put a Pcie3.0x16 card in to a Pcie2.0x16 slot. And just to answer your question, NO you cannot put an adapter since the pcie bandwidth of the motherboard cannot be upgraded.
