Hello, I'm really not much of any expert on computers so I was wondering if someone could help me out. I currently have a 1.2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570, and I want to make an upgrade to a newer GTX card (most likely the 600 series). My Motherboard is an M5A88-V EVO and I have a power supply of 630W. Are there any newer GTX cards that my system can support? If there are, which ones are possible?

Thanks!

~Matt

Any new card is compatible with your motherboard since they are all PCI-E

What's your budget and specific model of your PSU (since your PSU could power a 570, it shouldn't have much of a problem with most cards but it'd still be nice to confirm)?

The best Nvidia upgrade options for you would be the GTX 760 or GTX 770

My budget is around $400 but I could push it a little farther to $500 if I needed to. My PSU manufacturer is Raidmax Technology Inc. and the model is the RX-630Z

The best cards around that range would be the Radeon r9 290 and GTX 780, though ideally you'd need a better PSU for that

Could I possibly get anything in the GTX 600 series?

The GTX 670 and GTX 760 perform closely and would probably be your best bet if you can find one cheap, anything below that is not really a worthy upgrade from the 570

My motherboard is actually PCIe 2.0 x16, is the 670 compatible? (The Box of my GTX 570 says one of the requirements is PCI Express or PCI Express 2.0 compliant motherboard with one x16 graphics slot)

Yea, all PCI-E 3.0 cards are backwards compatible with 2.0 slots

No performance difference either, most high end cards still don't take full advantage of 2.0 slots

Ok, great to know! Thanks a whole bunch for your help, I'll probably get the 670 then.

Actually I'll have to decide still, 760 seems like a great option too.

If you're also considering AMD cards, the 280x/7970 and r9 290 would be worth looking into as well

I'd get the gtx 780, since it uses a better architecture and it had its price lowered due to the release of the new r9 290 from ATI. I really don't think that the 670 is going to be a major upgrade for your card.
