Greetings! This is my first post. I'm going to be building my first rig soon and am stumped on this one. Tried searching all over to no avail.

Custom Gaming Build #1
I'm going with the Asus 144Hz moniter and want to get the most out of it. It was noted that it needs both MB and GPU compatibility to run at 144Hz. The Asus GTX 770 will be fine, no doubts there, but the motherboard is where I am stumped. The MB I reluctantly picked out is $60 more expensive than the intial MSi Z77a-g45 I was so happy with before realizing it won't do the trick (?). This Z77 MPower has a rear I/O DisplayPort which I can only assume means it's the type I need. I'm not sure if what the monitor requires is a connector on the MB or an actual port to plug into (doubt it) but, bottom line I have no idea and there is next to no information readily available on Google AFAIK. Any advice is appreciated (any at all, I'm a first-time builder) and thanks for looking!

You will be fine.
Plug the monitor into the graphics card. NOT the motherboard.
Enjoy your new build.

So does the MB at all matter or what am I looking for in general out of the MB? I would really love to switch back to the MSi Z77A-G45

The motherboard does not matter if you are using a video card. The monitor will be plugged into the graphics card.
The Z77A-G45 will work just as well for you system. You will not be using the motherboard output for the monitor.

That really does make sense, I just couldn't be too sure and the wording on the monitor's page threw me off.
Anyway that's excellent news, thanks a lot !
