Just built my first gaming pc but I need a good graphics card. I changed my mind about getting a 7850 as it probably won't last as long as I want it to
So I'm wondering which is better a
gigabyte gtx 670 2gb oc for $379 or
gigabyte amd Radeon r9 280x oc 3gb for $385
I live in Australia so the prices are a bit higher here

SYSTEM:
i5 4570
Gigabyte Z87-HD3
Thermal take Tough power Gold 750W
Kingston 8GB RAM
2Tb HDD
Samsung 128GB SSD
Asus VS248 24" 1920x1080

Purpose: gaming and movies, bf4, gta v, dayz,

All high quality at 1920x1080

Might overclock but no sli or xfire

Also I have read that the r9 280x is inconsistent and was wondering if that effects it that badly also I looked at the bench marks and was wondering why it beats much higher cards in some games but loses in some games to lower cards

This may be wrong because I am new to his all so feel free to correct me

The 280x is the better card and you can get BF4 for free with some of them. It will significantly faster than a GTX 670 and slightly faster than a 770 for that matter in BF4. Benchmarks always vary, AMD cards will almost always win in Battlefield, Far Cry 3 while Nvidia will always win in PhysX games like Batman and Borderlands. It's just how the game goes, certain games are optimized better for certain brands. You'll be happy with either, honestly, but the 280X is better value for money ultimately.

exactly the same as a 280x and cost less than a 760... but you dont get bf4 with it... although i do believe you get 3 other games with it.

right now the 760/770/280x are not good values at all(unless it comes with a game you are going to purchase anyways) with the incredible prices of 7950/7970/670's out there with are exactly the same thing.

Yeah but new ones are mostly out of stock or at original prices. He'd have to pick up a used one to get a great deal, which is entirely possible but a little risky on such an expensive part.

Depending on the price a GTX 670 is still a very good card if you can get it at a good price that is. I know in the US the Gigabyte GTX 670,dual fan, has gone down to $279 on Newegg but of course that is US price so I can't say what that equates to in Australia. If you can't get one at a good price the 280x would be better since it is new tech.

Thanks for the replies
I'm probably going to get a 280x
But out of interest, there is a 2gb gigabyte 670 and a 4gb gigabyte 670, would my needs need more than 2gb
