I currently have 2 120GB SSDs and a 1TB HDD. Currently, my HDD is its own partition for my data (drive "D:") and 1 SSD is used for my operating system - the other SSD is completely unused. A friend told me I'll have to use RAID0.

First, is there anyone that can confirm this is what I need?

Second, can anyone give me a basic idea on the info to perform this RAID? Do I need a RAID controller? Is it determined by my MOBO? etc.

Thanks!

Ok so you have two SSD drives at 120GB each.

Yes you can Raid them, though as said you will not notice much difference.

What raid with do is combine both of the 120GB SSD drives together to make one drive. That will report back as 240GB, A bit less due to formatting of course.

The problem is if you intended to create a raid array with the two SSD drives it would involve you in wiping the current OS installed on the first SSD drive as the boot drive.

You then have to set the RAID mode up in the bios of the computer.
You have an option to select each drive connected that the bios sees into a raid array Normal mode is SATA or AHCI.

SSD 1 Mode RAID.
SSD 2 Mode RAID.

1 TB Hard drive SATA mode.
CD/DVD rom SATA mode.

You then have to...

Mine for example after changing settings in the bios, saving and exiting the bios is the F10 key for example once done.

Format and setup of the raid array is done.
Then on the next boot the windows 8 installation should be started.
Be aware you will lose all current data or information of the SSD currently being used as the boot for the OS.

Once you change the two SSD drives to Raid you will be met with a message saying
Missing OS or no boot drive. This is the point where you enter the raid seup of the drives via a F10 key for example. create the raid of the two drives and the raid mode. It will format both drives pair them.

Then install windows again with the cd or DVD you have.
