how can i transfer files form a black screan pc with a usb csble

hi i got a windos xp that hase files on it that i want to keep but at the moment its got a black screan due to me and my dad trying to fix the cooling fan and cut a black wire but it can still fire up and run so i think that wire was the moniter so my mom thought about a usb thumb drive for geting the files out of it and i hade a ideal pop in to my mind what if i use a usb cable connect it to a new pc and extracet the files on to the thumb drive but i dont know if this will work can some one tell what to do or how i can get the fiels off the hard drive
 
Solution
You already had the case open, it's easy to remove the drive after that, disconnect the cables from it and remove it. You'll probably just need to remove a few screws holding it to the case. Get an external USB case for the drive, plug it into another computer. You may need to take ownership of the files on that second computer, sometimes it won't let you access the folders without doing that.

Make sure you get the right external box for the type of drive connections you have, ATA (IDE) or SATA.

The other thing, why don't you just see where that cable you cut was going to and replace it? Or just splice the cable together again if it was just one strand?

hi thanks for the awnsser but i dont think it will work seeing as i need to have the pc on and run it with the screan on but i dont have accest to the screan its all black out so i dont know how this will work.

dont know how i would be ablie to go and do that the only way i been able to find a awnsser to the probelm is go with a ide to sata extneal hard drive encloser but besides that i dont know of anyway to remover the harddrive and connect it to anouther pc.. i am thinking of going to a pc repair shop later on down the road and ask them to remover it and put it in to a encloser due to me being compture illiterate on that kind of stuff anyway thanks for all the help.bye
