startup repair just keeps running

I left my computer in sleep mode last night when I went to bed. When I turned t on this morning it went straight into startup repair mode 5 hours later it is still running and wont let me cancel it. can I just shut down the computer or will this cause any damage or is there any way of getting out of this while the computer is still on.

It may simply need a proper restart instead of wake up.
Press and hold in the computer's power-on button. It will shut down after about 5 seconds.
This won't cause any damage.
Then switch it on again and see how far it gets to booting Windows.

Hi, I tried that been playing around all day with it. now startup repaid wont even run it just says cannot repair this computer automatically (send info). I have tried all the advance options (system restore, image recovery etc) but still no joy. even inserted windows 7 disc but same thing disc starts to run then nothing jst back to the beginning.
