Hi,
im expecting a c2d e8500 o arrive and its fsb is 1333. asrock states that if i want to put this chip and ddr3 ram memory ,i have to change a jumper on the board. the thing is, i have ddr2 ram memory atm, and i was wondering , first, do i have to change the jumper just because im gonna install the new chip, while keeping the ddr2 ram,,,,,and second, if i do in fact install this chip, can i still have the ddr2 ram memory, i dont really want to change to ddr3 atm cause im low on cash
please help
thx:pt1cable:

First, you can't use DDR2 and DDR3 RAM at the same time together in both sets of slots. But you may already know that. Just thought I'd mention it, though.

Normally I'd caution you to check the BIOS version before installing the new CPU, but it appears that the E8500 works with the earliest BIOS. So no issue there: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G41C-GS/?cat=CPU

There should be no problem using DDR2 memory with the C2D 8500. I'd pop in the "new" chip and boot up. The BIOS should recognize the CPU change and have you enter BIOS to make any changes if necessary. It might be a good idea to browse around in the BIOS to see if anything needs changing, but I suspect it will not. Just SAVE and EXIT.

thanks.
its the fsb1333 that troubles me. the manual says i have to change a jumper, but doesnt specify to change it with only a new cpu,,or ram,,or both (which is the obvious) because the e8500 is fsb 1333,do i change the jumper? even though i want to keep the ddr2 ram?
heres what the manual says:
FSB1 Jumper
(FSB1, 3-pin jumper, see p.11 No. 25)
""""""If you adopt FSB1333-CPU and DDR3 1333 memory module on this motherboard, you
need to adjust the jumper. Please short pin2, pin3 for FSB1 jumper. Otherwise, the
CPU and memory module may not work properly on this motherboard. Please refer to
below jumper setting""""""

I have not had any experience with hybrid MBs that accept DDR2 and DDR3 memory. But I believe they are simply saying that the jumper would have to be changed if you used 1333MHZ memory with the new CPU and wanted the memory to run at that speed. Since you are using slower DDR2 (800/667/533MHZ?) memory, I suggest you leave the jumper where it is now. I am going by caution #4 listed on page 8 of your manual. The only time the jumper is to be changed is with FSB1333-CPU and DDR3 1333 memory.
