So I've set my mind on a R9 270X and now choosing which one to buy. Right now I'm thinking about the Asus direct copper Or the MSI twin forzr. Are brands like powercolor any good?

More about : companies provide cooling

I personally love EVGA and Asus. Some people like Gigabyte. I'd stick with those.

I would stick with one of the name brands but when it comes to cooling Gigabyte makes the windforce for most of their GPU's. From most of the reviews i have read they tend to have the best cooling but they also make the most noise and are more prone to breaking due to the number of fans (more fans = more things to break). All cards are tested before they are released so they won't overheat so i wouldn't worry about it unless you plan on overclocking your GPU or have poor airflow in your case.

Hmm Gigabyte's cards are a little too big for my liking and case and EVGA doesn't sell AMD cards. So I'm curious how Sapphire cards work. I will be doing some overclocking (hopefully to the point where it's like a 280) which needs a good cooler. I'll usually be having the fan speed at 100% as I game with my headset.
So, what's the difference between the Vapour-X model and the Toxic model from Sapphire? And is it better to save for a 280/280x ? I'll most likely be buying the cards in about 2-3 months , so are there rumours on Nivida/Amd releasing new cards?

Sapphire is a decent brand iv heard they have had some issues with their R9 series where the VRAM is frequently DOA. the difference the two models is mostly in clock speed the Toxic is OCed just a bit more almost not worth mentioning, but the vapor-x is supposed to have better cooling tech it uses some kind of vapor in the heat pipes http://www.sapphiretech.com/VaporX/VaporX_home.html
if you plan to do the OverClocking yourself its prolly better to go with the Vapor because of the better cooling. They only make a 280X and it about $100 more than a 270X for a modest power boost http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
Im not a Radeon guy iv only ever bought Nvidia that being said its always better to get a better card if you can afford it (provided the rest of your system can keep up with it)

So I've decided on the 280 VapourX. It was a pretty easy decision between it and the Gtx 770, since it was retailing at $500 Usd as the retailers haven't adopted the price drop. As I said, I will be getting the card in 3 months time, and other cards may come out.

My specs are :
I5 3330s
Gt 620 OEM (Used to have, overclocked like a beast, but lousy thermal grease fried the card.)
8 Gb DDR3 1600mhz
Stock Dell Mobo
500W PSU (Upgrading to a TX 850M or M12i 850W)

EDIT: And by the way I took apart my 620
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt...
And the heatsink and fan was by Cooler Master

Good plan to upgrade the PSU overclocking can draw pretty heavily on it 500W might not be enough doesn't hurt to have more juice.
