I just recently bought a gaming pc and bought a Asus VN247H-P it has 1ms response time and 60hz, and it was fine until I tried assassins creed blackflag when I experienced a lot of screen tearing. I tryed v sync but the fps did not stay at 60 but rather near 30 :/ . So I was thinking about returning the monitor and buying a Asus VG248QE it has 1ms response time and 144hz for about 60$ more. My question now is what will happen if my fps is not able to reach the refresh rate? Although I think I can in most games.(I'm new to pc gaming, go easy on me :)  )

My pc: Intel core I7-4770k processor
Asus maximums VI hero
EVGA GeForce GTX 780 superclocked
Kingston HyperX blu 8GB DDR3-1600MHz CL9 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 4GB
Antec 850w PSU
Seagate 1tb hdd
Nzxt phantom 410

Hey Dboss9!
Don't worry about the fps not reaching the refresh rate. You're smoothness relies on the fps but the quality doesn't. Since you have a gtx 780 I am sure you will be fine. No matter what the monitor will look great. I love the Asus VG248QE because of its great performance. Good luck gaming with your new monitor!

That sounds more like a problem with Assassin's Creed more than anything. Just for the sake of it, can you just make sure that your drivers are all up to date? You can check with an auto-detect tool over at www.geforce.com

Besides, I thought the game wasn't out yet?

Assassins creed blackflag came out yesterday. Ya I suppose it could be an issue with the game.

Would you recommend this monitor? I'm very interested in it. But have heard picture quality is given up abit for speed, does quality only go down when it's upped to 144hz. Because I have heard you can put it at 120hz is this true?

I would defiantly recommend this monitor because its amazing. To answer your question higher HZ don't limit quality all it does is make the quality better.
