So I've been building me a decent gaming computer piece by piece and so far it's coming along pretty good. I've noticed while playing metro last light that I'll get time of serious lag or skipping on the higher graphics settings. I recently bought a PNY GTX 650 TI Boost 2gb card, upgrading from a PNY GTX 550 Ti 1gb card which did fairly well. I'm thinking it's my processor that's bottlenecking my GPU and I'm considering upgrading the CPU to something faster instead of overclocking my current one.

I wanna know if I can change from a AMD Phenom II 830 x4 to a AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W without having to either reinstall windows 7 or have any issues with it recognizing it.

Current setup:
Raidmax case, 3 fans
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ mobo
AMD Phenom II 830 x4 processor(gutted from HP computer, not overclocked)
Coisair CX600M PSU
5200 1TB Hitachi hard drive(gutted from HP)
PNY GTX 650 TI Boost 2 GB 192 bit interface GPU
16 GB DDR3 Patriot Viper 3 ram
ZALMAN CNPS11X Performa cpu fan

Solution
Yeah you can. I have a similar mobo and upgrade from an FX 6200 (bulldozer, that FX 6300 is a piledriver, much nicer) to an FX 8320 with no trouble.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'll upgrade as soon as I can afford to. The mobo software actually made it as easy as clicking one button to overclock my cpu to 3.37 ghz, so that pretty much solved most of my graphics issues, still have some jerking on ultra graphics though.
