I know there are other threads about this, but every system is different and i just dont know enough about this stuff to figure it out. I want to know if my rig can run BF4 on ultra (or eyefinity but i seriously doubt that)

i got my computer from ibuypower.com. specs directly from that. it was a few years ago...

Processor Intel® Core™ i7 950 Processor (4x 3.06GHz/8MB L3 Cache)
iBUYPOWER PowerDrive PowerDrive Level 2 - Up to 20% Overclocking
Processor Cooling Liquid CPU Cooling System [SOCKET-1366] - Enermax Dual Silent High Performance Fan Upgrade (Push-Pull Airflow)
Memory 12 GB [2 GB X6] DDR3-1333 - ** FREE Upgrade to DDR3-1600 ** Corsair or Major Brand
Video Card ATI Radeon HD 5870 - 2GB - ASUS ROG MATRIX Design - CrossFire Mode (Dual Cards)
Video Card Brand Major Brand Powered by ATI or NVIDIA

Motherboard [SLI] Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 w/ 2x Gb LAN, 4x PCI-E 2.0 x16
Motherboard USB / SATA Interface Motherboard default USB / SATA Interface
Power Supply 1200 Watt -- Thermaltake TR2 TRX-1200M

one reason i'm asking is that in all the benchmark stuff i find i cant find anything about the 5870. I've found a few threads talking about the 5870 that were older but they were all the 1gig version of the card.

So what do you think? Ultra? Eyefinity? last question... at what point does frame rate become irrelevant? i'm not a proffesional gamer so what is the real difference between 60fps and 75fps and 100fps?

Thanks guys

Solution
The only thing holding you back is the 5870 set up, to get decent fps on BF4 on Ultra settings is to upgrade to a new gpu like the GTX 770/780 or the 280/280X, even a 7970 is plenty to give you a decent upgrade from your 5870 set up.
You will notice a huge difference in performance.
Xfiring or SLI gpu's does not combine the vram unfortunately

Thanks. So what do you think my bottleneck is? Do I need a new CPU or GPU? I would have thought that the crossfired gpu's having a combined 4gigs would be ok still.

I suppose this is almost a separate question, but if xfiring doesn't combine the VRAM what the heck does it do? I though it would improve performance by 50-75 percent.

Thanks for the help!

VRAM Essentially allows your card to "buffer" more helping with things like resolution and in turn multi monitor support. What's really important is the GPU clock speed, by running a crossfire the GPU's on both cards share the load increasing your processing power but not doubling it.

So I bought the game and I can run it on High at 60 fpswhich is good enough for now. I used the 'in game' system test to come up with that number. Now the problem is that it is saying I have packet loss. What is that and how do I correct it?

Means net traffic packets are getting lost somewhere between you and the servers, not much you could do about it. Not sure how BF4 handles servers but if you can chooce try some other server (mind the ping).
More drastic means are like changing the ISP you are using and trying different type of connection (adsl/cable/fiber)...
Or it could be just some heavy traffic along the way (or on the server) depending on the time/day which would correct itself when things quiet down a bit.

I have AT&T uverse elite which is only 6Mbps. Is that my problem?

The speed itself is not the issue, it won't cause or reduce packet loss.

But I have no knowledge on american ISPs so can't comment on that part.

edit You might just wanna monitor things for a week or two and see if it fixes itself, it might be the servers after all...
Can you still play the game?

Yeah I really didnt notice anything wrong until I ran their system test. So it certainly isn't a pressing issue, but I was just following the rabbit hole. Thanks for the help. I appreciate all the responses.

I have heard that they are having some major server issues with BF4 its being said that they rushed the release to beat Call Of Duty. but the issue causes the game to crash so if you're not getting game crashes it might not be the problem.
