Thinking of updating my gfx card so I have a question about cfx. All things being equal and not necessarily looking toward the future...

If you had $500 to spend is it better to get two $250cards and cfx them or one $500 card? What would give you the best performance today? Do some games / programs have issues with cfx? I also edit photos so any reason cfx would have issues with photoshop / Lightroom?

Thanks for the help

More about : crossfire single card

Always go for asingle card over cf or sli.

you should only do cf or sli if you're upgrading and only have enough to add a 2nd of the same card to the machine.

Some say to stay away from Crossfire or SLI. I have never had any issues with Crossfire, and you can usually save some $$ and get better performance than a single card. Some say go with single, so you can add a second in SLI or Crossfire as your upgrade. I tried going that route, but by the time I wanted to upgrade it was hard to find that card (HD5770).

Also all games I currently have has taken advantage of crossfire. (2 HD7850OC), and have personally had zero issues.

So now that I think about it...I would go with crossfire setup. Better performance for less money is hard to beat.

A single card that is just as good as 2 CF/SLI cards then upgrade later with another card. If you have a hard time finding a card because you waited that long to upgrade again is saying a couple of things:

1) That single card was obviously good enough to last you long enough on it's own anyway

2) You waited way to long before you decided to upgrade, since you can still find 6xxx series cards easily and they are already on 2xx series for AMD and it's still easy to find 5xx serires cards even though they're on 7xx series now.

I'm not saying that SLI has issues either, it's just easier and upgradable in the future to go with a single card, if and where possible

Hmmm. When I upgraded I found 0 new, and 1 on craigslist 150 miles away for just under the price of a 7850 would cost me. So when I upgraded (not long ago) it was far from easy to find. Agree that I keep a card very long hence why I decided to go with crossfire. Less $$ more performance, and would have to fully upgrade GPU setup anyways. But everyone has a different view. This was what I did and do not regret it. Also runs nice and cool with less fan noise per Max PC.

Which is completely fair. To each his own is how I see it. I run in sli right now myself since i could only afford 1 $200 card at a time. I only waited about 6 months though to grab my 2nd.
